A typical rehearsal with One Accord is educational, encouraging and fun! During our choir year we rehearse once a week for two hours. Within that time, we have a short warm-up and then we focus on learning the nuances of the repertoire.
The Warm Up
The warm up helps us get our bodies and brains ready for the rehearsal. This is one of the most important parts of our practice because it allows us to release the stress of the day and gives us time to work on vocal exercises.
During the warm up, our director Anita Perlau gives us a mini singing lesson where we work on our breathing, think about how we connect the breath with the body and learn to extend our vocal range.
Choir Practice
During practices we:
- Learn strategies to sing lines more effortlessly and to find specific notes in difficult passages of music.
- Work on sectionals where we split voice parts into smaller groups and practice them separately.
- Collaborate with our accompanist, Rachel Baljeu, to polish our pieces to be performance ready.
Although we work hard during practices, we value our community and want everyone to have the chance to connect. During our rehearsals, we always take breaks to decompress and spend time together!
